For any business to succeed, it’s important that it have a specific target audience to which the company will cater. For example, a trendy snowboard shop will likely target the 16-28 year-old market. If the messaging is going to be consistent, the shop will want to have a logo, website and promotional products that the target customers will find inviting and appealing.
The same goes for any business. While designing a company logo, it is very important to keep the target group of customers in mind. For example, a logo with difficult-to-read lettering will most likely alienate many older consumers, who might have a hard time reading the business¹ name. The owner of a day care center, on the other hand, would be foolish to put flames in the company logo.
A logo may not break any cardinal rules of design, but if the logo is way off target, potential customers might have a difficult time identifying with the design, which will probably lead to low profitability and eventually, Going Out Of Business ads.
