Well, I’m writing again to give another update…! I’ve learned so much over the last few weeks! This week has been very interesting. Yesterday, I began working on analyzing MSN Search. We are trying to get Business Logos in the top ten for the keyword search logo design, and keep it there. However, Business Logos has been all over the place on MSN search. Google and Yahoo Search seem to be much more consistent as far as rankings go, but MSN search is very unpredictable and changes dramatically and also changes quite often. Two days ago, Business Logos was on page nine of MSN for Logo Design. Yesterday, it was on page four. Then today, it dropped to page nine again. It really doesn’t make much sense to me! I used some online tools to check logo design keyword density and site volume for the top ten sites and also for Business Logos. I placed all the data on a spreadsheet. A few things stood out, but nothing was consistent enough to convince me of exactly why MSN ranks their sites the way they do. I decided that I will periodically keep track of the top ten sites on MSN and hopefully over time, I will begin to see trends in the data. I’ve finished the spreadsheet from yesterday, and so I think it may be a good idea to add a page to the spreadsheet every so often (with data for a different date), so that the MSN rankings may start to make more sense.
This week, I also continued posting messages in graphic design and web design forums to help increase links to Business Logos. I’ve also used the forums as an opportunity to ask around about MSN Search. I’ve had a few replies, mostly saying that MSN puts alot of emphasis on keywords in Title text and Anchor text. I hope to get some more insight as I continue to post. Since HTML is pretty new to me, I’m really excited to be learning so much about it. I really enjoy it. It is very important for me to understand it, since I need to be able to differentiate between the different components of HTML code to make sense of the reasoning behind Search Engine rankings. And, I really, really want to get Business Logos on the first page as soon as possible!! I’d like to eventually become very proficient in HTML, and maybe even take a class or something during my free time. I would love to create my own website someday! I’ll be sure to let you know if that ever happens!
