When designing a logo the type of software used is essential. It plays a substantial role in determining how adaptable the logo will be. When designing a logo many people use such programs as Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign. Although these programs are great for word processing and layout they are not designed for illustrative work. For all-around logo design the perfect software includes: Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Macromedia Freehand. These are great programs for design because they are Vector-based and allow for easy translation into other programs. Also, logos and other graphic art used for business cards, signage and other promotional materials should be saved as an EPS file. Saving graphic art as an EPS file allows for higher quality resolution, ultimately resulting in a clearer picture.
However, when designing a logo for a web it is necessary to change your EPS file to a GIF or a JPG. Bitmap graphics software handles this transition nicely. Programs included in this category include, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photo-Paint and Jasc Paint Shop Pro. Now, you do not need one of these programs to design a logo for the web but they are helpful.
