Good Logos Work In Black and White

When designing a logo, many people get hung up on the colors. Trying one Pantone color after another in the search to find just the right feel. And while color is important, really good logos work in black and white first. Think about the logos for big corporations like McDonald’s, Nike, and CocaCola. Even when printed in black and white, or reversed out of a color background, you immediately recognize them. The shapes and logotype are strong enough to carry the logo without color. Adding color only strengthens your recognition. If your logo works in black and white as well as in color, you’ve got the beginnings of a good corporate identity.
